Are the boats easy to drive?

Duffy, Donut, Retro and Pontoon Yes! Driving our electric boats are like driving a golf cart! Speed varies on capacity and boat model but is generally around 3-6mph. Designated drivers must be 21 or older, have a valid drivers license and, of course, are not permitted to drink while driving. All passengers will watch a short safety video and receive a 5-10 minute tutorial from one of our expert crew members before setting out. Each boat is equipped with a detailed map so that you can plan your cruise along the river. If you&rsquo;re uneasy about driving (or if all members of your group would rather enjoy the cruise with a drink in hand) we do offer USCG licensed captains for an additional $75/hour with a minimum of two hours. These captains must be reserved beforehand so let us know prior to cruising if you are interested in hiring a captain. If you do hire a captain then, in accordance with USCG Law, only 6 passengers are permitted to be on the boat. Cycleboat and Party Barge These boats are driven by a USCG licensed captain, so you get to cycle or sit back and enjoy the Chicago views! What is the difference between a captain and a tour guide?

Please note, you may not stop anywhere else along the river for any reason, bathroom breaks included. Only boats rented from our downtown locations can view the fireworks. Rockwell on the River rentals are not able to view the fireworks. The show runs Memorial Day through Labor Day. Wednesday shows are at 9:00pm-9:10pm and Saturday shows are at 10:0pm-10:10pm. The best place to see the fireworks is just east of Lake Shore Drive, near the locks. There will most certainly be lots of other boats enjoying the show from there, too, so it is important to be aware of your surroundings to avoid collisions. Cycleboats, Party Barges and Yachts One of the most popular times to rent a boat is on Wednesday and Saturday evenings during the summer so that you can see the Navy Pier fireworks show from the water. There are many bus options but the 29, 36 and 62 run along State Street and stop directly in front of Marina City. ROCKWELL ON THE RIVER LOCATION: Unfortunately, this location is not as public transportation friendly so we suggest driving or taking a ride-share. The closest bus options is the 52 bus going north on California and get off at the Rockwell stop. Or taking the 77 bus on Belmont and get off at Rockwell. Duffy, Donut, Retro and Pontoons Our boats are not permitted out onto the lake, and all vessels must remain on the Chicago River for the duration of your cruise. If you find yourself inside the Chicago Harbor Lock and on Lake Michigan, you will be fined $500. Cycleboats, Party Barge We do have a Lakeside cycleboat out of Monroe Harbor. Our two hour cruises riverside can go on the lake, however, you would have to purchase two time slots to accomidate going through the Chicago Harbor Lock twice. Yachts If you book either of our yachts, you are able to go onto the lake. When booking a lakeside cruise, we recommend departing from Monroe Harbor, as it can take some time to get through the locks when departing from Marina City.

Are pets allowed on the boats?

Can we dock or drop off anyone during our rental period?

This is not only for your safety, but to minimize damage to our boats. If you need to come back to the dock at anytime during your rental, simply radio ahead or call the office and your crew member will be waiting to assist you.

What is the orientation process?

Duffy, Donut, Retro and Pontoon Upon arrival, one of our staff will check your ID and Credit Card, they will make sure your waiver was filled out prior to arrival, and then fill out a quick check-in waiver. After you are checked in, a crew member will bring you down to your boat and give a quick 5-10 minute safety orientation and answer any questions you may have. Once you are comfortable and prepared to start your cruise, your crew member will walk your boat to the end of the dock and bid you Bon Voyage! Cycleboats, Party Barge and Yachts When your whole group is onboard, your captain will give you a safety orientaion.

Cycleboat and Party Barge Since we are US Coast Guard inspected vessels life jackets are not required to be worn during the cruise. We do have plenty stored onboard for our guests in marked bins. What is your weather policy?

Duffy, Donut, Retro, Pontoons, Cycleboats, Party Barge and Yachts Our boats operate rain or shine as they are covered or have covering. Reservations are only rescheduled if the manager on duty or the captain deems the weather too dangerous (i.e. heavy winds or hail) to safely navigate the river. Refunds due to weather are not offered. If your cruise is rescheduled due to weather, the cancellation policy does not apply to the rescheduled cruise. If a raincheck is offered, cruises can only be rescheduled for the same season as the original reservation. You will be notified if your cruise needs to be rescheduled an hour prior to your cruise as the weather is constantly changing. Please note, even though it might be storming in another area in or surrounding the Chicagoland area, that does not mean it is storming downtown and you are still responsible for the payment of your reservation whether you attend or not, unless you have been notified by a manager. If weather is a concern for you, we recommend purchasing cancellation protection, as weather cancellations are very rare on behalf of our company.

The payer of the reservation serves as the responsible party and signatory, therefore, must be present at the time of the reservation. Refunds, partial refunds, and/or credits are not offered to customers who are late for their reservation. For purchasers of the Cancellation Protection, you will be able to cancel your cruise for any reason, up to one hour prior to your departure time for a full refund - minus any add-on fees, the one hour period is also applicable for rescheduling cruises. Please note, even with the Cancellation Protection, a reserved captain and/or tour guide must be cancelled 24 hours in advance. For reservations submitted within 24 hours of the scheduled reservation, all sales are final. Refunds or cancellations for reservations of the preceding nature will occur at the sole discretion of Chicago Boat Company. Chicago Boat Company reserves the right to cancel a reservation at the time of rental due to dangerous weather, this decision is to be made by the company. In the event a cancellation is made by Chicago Boat Company full refunds will not be issued to the renter, however, another reservation will be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time subject to availability. You, as the signatory, are the only one who can cancel this reservation. If the reservation is canceled within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time, you acknowledge that Chicago Boat Company is entitled to the full payment. All passengers must agree to the full range of responsibilities and duties expressly and implicitly stated in any and all contracts entered into between the signatory and Chicago Boat Company. For public cruises, Chicago Boat Company requires a major credit card to be authorized at the time of a rental, with available funds of $250, to be placed on file for a security deposit. The security deposit will be released in its full amount not more than 48 hours after the vessel has been returned in the same condition as it departed. The signatory and all passengers are required to carefully watch a safety orientation given by the captain before departing the dock. All public cruises MUST be cancelled 7 days in advance for a refund minus added-ons including booking fee and tip. If a public cruise is booked within a 7 day window, it cannot be refunded or rescheduled. Right Of Reservation Changes: Chicago Boat Company reserves the right to make changes to all reservations at its sole discretion. Chicago Boat Company will make a reasonable effort to advise affected parties of any changes to their reservation as soon as notification becomes feasible. Chicago Boat Company will make all reasonable effort to minimize the necessity of such changes. Chicago Boat Company reserves the right to cancel a reservation at its sole discretion as a result of, but not limited to, adverse weather, war, riots, terrorist activities, natural disasters, water closures [Chicago River or Lake Michigan] due to government agency decisions, or other unforeseen circumstances. All passengers, including the responsible party (signatory of rental agreement and terms and conditions), will be encouraged to thoroughly and carefully read the agreement before signing. What are the policies for boat passes?

Duffy, Donut, Retro, and Pontoon All the policies are the same for boat pass holders, as they are for non-boat pass customers. Boat passes are season passes and must be used the season that they are purchased. Cycleboats, Party Barge and Yachts We do not offer boat passes for these boats.

How many people can I bring on my Hot Tub Boat excursion?

Our Hot Tub Boats can accommodate a maximum of 800 lbs and no more than 6 people. Please make sure not to exceed the maximum capacity and the maximum collective weight of 800 lbs for safety reasons. We will need you to fill out a form with the weight of each passenger and submit it to our staff to ensure that the group does not exceed the weight requirement, again, 800 lbs.

Is there a weather policy?

Hot tubbing through rain, snow and shine- Nothing stops the soak. When the temperature dips to around 20&deg;F, it may be too chilly for our Hot Tub Boats to cruise. For your safety and comfort, any cruises booked on days this cold will need to be rescheduled. Don&rsquo;t worry though, your cozy, warm river adventure is just around the corner! We'll work with you to find the perfect day to make a splash, without the freeze! For anyone worried about winter weather, we recommend purchasing our Cancellation Protection. This allows you to cancel for any reason 24 hours before departure time. Refunds will not be issued for reservations due to inclement weather or unforeseen interruptions. Chicago Boat Company reserves the right to reschedule any cruise when they deem the weather too cold or hazardous to safely operate. Refunds will not be offered in this event your cruise must be rescheduled, only a credit towards a future cruise will be offered. The rescheduled cruise can not be cancelled for a refund at a later date.

All cancellations must be submitted via email only, (not phone calls or voice messages), to rentme@chicagoboatcompany.com . **Cancellation Protection is only available to purchase when booking the reservation and can not be added to an existing reservation**

How does the Hot Tub Boat stay clean?

Our hot tubs are emptied and refilled with fresh water on a regular schedule, and in between rentals we filter the water and add the right mix of sanitizing and balancing chemicals. We use liquid chlorine to sanitize, non-chlorine shock to remove waste, and enzymes to break down oils and lotions. The tubs are also skimmed and vacuumed to remove any debris. This process keeps the water clean, clear, and safe for every guest.

You can rent a Hot Tub Boat during our from November 5th - March 22nd. You are able to book online starting 10/7. Please visit our website for specific hours and availability. Does the driver need any special license to operate a Hot Tub Boat on the Chicago River? How do you steer the boat?

The Hot Tub Boat will be operated by a designated driver from your party who will sit in the hot tub with the group. You will need to have a driver&rsquo;s license and to be over the age of 21 to operate a Hot Tub Boat on the Chicago River. We provide a brief orientation and safety instructions to all renters to ensure a safe and easy operation. Our Hot Tub Boats are equipped with a user-friendly tiller, which allows you to easily steer the boat in your desired direction.

What is the dress code on the Hot Tub Boats? What if I forget something?

Please wear appropriate swimwear or clothing suitable for water activities; no shoes (including water shoes) are permitted on the boats. We want to provide a comfortable and respectful experience for all passengers. Nudity is not allowed on our Hot Tub Boat rentals. There will be heated changing areas and mats on the dock as well as areas to safely stow belongings. Please bring towels/flip flops. We have additional waterproof phone cases, towels, flip flops and hats for sale on-site the day of your rental.

Food: No, food is not allowed on the Hot Tub Boats for sanitary purposes. Children: For safety reasons, children under 13 are not allowed on the Hot Tub Boats. For children 13 and over, please ensure their safety at all times. Please inquire about any questions regarding age and safety regulations specific to your rental. Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on board our Hot Tub Boats to maintain a clean and safe environment for all passengers. Alcohol: Yes, alcohol is allowed on board for passengers who are of legal drinking age. However, glass is not permitted, and make sure to designate a sober captain. Please drink responsibly, a higher body temperature causes the effects of alcohol to occur faster.

What is the check in process like? Where do I store my things while I'm in the Hot Tub Boat?

Please arrive 45 minutes before your reservation. Check in will occur in the Chicago Boat Company office in the Marina City concourse level, near the State Street entrance. Make sure to have your credit card and ID with you at check in, you will need to sign a waiver. After check in you will be directed to the River Level of Marina City where you will be greeted by a Chicago Boat Company crew member. You will then be assigned to a changing area with lockers. We will provide a designated locker space for each party. You will be given a key to your locker and a bracelet to keep it on your wrist while you float in the Hot Tub Boat.

Is the Hot Tub Boat available for holidays?

Our Hot Tub Boat rentals are available on most holidays, but we are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. It's advisable to check our website or contact us in advance to confirm availability and any special holiday hours.

When the temperature drops to 20&deg;F, even our Heated Duffy Boats might feel a bit too frosty! For your safety and comfort, any cruises scheduled on those chilly days will need to be rescheduled. Don&rsquo;t worry&mdash;your warm, scenic river adventure is just around the corner! We&rsquo;ll help you find the perfect day to enjoy the views without the freeze!

How warm is the Heated Duffy? Do I need to wear a jacket on board?

Our Heated Duffys heat up to just around room temperature. We recommend bringing layers that you can shed or add as needed.

Question 62

Are the boats easy to drive?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Driving our electric boats are on par with driving a golf cart and cruise at around 3-6 mph. Speed varies on capacity and boat model. Designated drivers must be 21 or older, have a valid drivers license and, of course, are not permitted to drink while driving. All passengers will watch a short safety video and receive a 5-10 minute tutorial from one of our expert crew members before setting out. Each boat is equipped with a detailed map so that you can plan your cruise along the river. If you&rsquo;re uneasy about driving (or if all members of your group would rather enjoy the cruise with a drink in hand) we do offer USCG licensed captains for an additional $75/hour. These captains must be reserved at least 72 hours in advance, so let us know prior to cruising if you are interested in hiring a captain. If you do hire a captain then, in accordance with USCG Law, only 6 passengers are permitted to be on the boat. If you have more than 6 passengers in your party, email rentme@chicagoboatcompany.com for an alternate way to secure a captain.

Can the captain also lead a tour?

No, captains will not add commentary to the cruise, they are only there to drive the boats. (Of course they are friendly, so don&rsquo;t be afraid to chat with them, just don&rsquo;t expect them to act as a tour guide.)
