If you’ve been walking along the Chicago River lately, you might be wondering… where are all the boats?
While things may look quiet right now, behind the scenes, we’re already gearing up for another busy (and fun) summer on the water. Getting everything ready for the season takes a lot more than just waiting for warm weather — here’s a little look at what’s been going on lately.
Getting the Boats Back in Action
Before any boat hits the water, it goes through a full check to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Since our fleet is electric, that means:
• Checking and charging batteries
• Inspecting motors and electrical systems
• Making sure everything is clean, safe, and ready to go
It’s not the most glamorous part of boating, but it’s one of the most important. A smooth ride on the river starts long before you step on the boat.
Cleaning, Prepping, and Resetting
After a long season (and a Chicago winter), every boat needs a reset.
We’re talking:
• Deep cleaning interiors
• Power Washing / Wiping everything down from top to bottom
• Making sure seating, tables, and flooring are in great shape
By the time opening day rolls around, every boat is feeling fresh again — like a clean slate for the season ahead.
Getting the Marina Ready
It’s not just the boats — the marina needs some love too.
This time of year, we’re:
• Setting up docks
• Organizing signage
• Double-checking safety equipment
Making sure everything is easy to navigate once guests arrive
It’s all about creating a smooth, stress-free experience from the moment you walk up.
Prepping the Team
Summer on the river takes a full team effort.
We’re hiring, training, and getting everyone ready so that when the season kicks off, things run seamlessly. From helping you check in to answering questions before you head out, the team plays a huge role in your experience.
Looking Ahead to Warmer Days
Even though it might not feel like boating weather just yet, it’s coming up faster than you think.
And while we’re busy behind the scenes, reservations for summer are already starting to pick up — especially for weekends and group events.
See You Out There Soon
Right now is that in-between moment, the calm before the busy season.
But it won’t stay quiet for long.
Before you know it, the river will be full again, the sun will be out (consistently 🤞), and we’ll be back to doing what we love most, getting people out on the water to relax, celebrate, and enjoy Chicago from a different perspective.
